Music Distribution in the Future

The methods in which we listen to media such as music has evolved. From cd players to ipods, and from radio to online streaming. What will the future have in store for music distribution and consumption? Music websites  such as Pandora, last.fm, Grooveshark, Spotify, and Rhapsody just to name a few have rapidly grown and become massively popular.

Streaming music will become an integral part of the future of how we consume music. With the do-it-all smartphones being widely used, Ipods and other mp3 players might fade away. We’ve seen smartphones cut into the camera market, it can also cut into the mp3 player market. Music streaming services that are free get their money from advertisements during the stream. It will be very interesting to see if this business model can be sustained or will it crumble and require subscription fees. I would also like to see how the record companies and artists adapt to the rise of music streaming services.
